I took these for istock, but I can't decide if they are any good. My husband thinks they are crap, and I may be leaning that way too... I'm not sure if the slight blur to the hands adds to the motion effect or just looks bad... also, I'm not sure if I have poorly processed the second one. What do you think of his skin tone? It is very similar to the color of the ball, and also the ball is reflecting color onto his face, so that was a difficulty.

Anyway, here are the shots, I would appreciate an honest critique and suggestions... esp. on those points I mentioned.

the top one has no appeal to myself at all, maybe if there was a net (basketball) or similar dunno...

Second one, the orange cast is distracting, is it possible to get some fill in light/flash in the small space between him and the ball, could have used slight crop at the bottom to leave just the t shirt, the motion blur I can live with, he's throwing a ball - seem to be some blown highlights also on the hands.

Thanks, Hil. Is this any better, do you think? Or should I just let this one go?

Sorry, not keen at all, the crops better, but the highlights are merging on the face - nose to ball -

Might be best to come back to it later and see if you are still keen to rescue something from it

Nah- I'm through with 'em. Thanks for all your input- sometimes I know a photo is no good, but I just WANT it to be good so bad, I try to trick myself. A half second earlier... a faster shutter speed... if only... if only. Rolling Eyes

Hey, just to prove I'm not completely incompetent, though, here's one from the same shoot that I was really pleased with. You may remember the hat... but I think the tone of this one is completely different than the last time I used this hat, even though there are a lot of similarities with the pose...

Probably something along the lines of - "I wish she would hurry the heck up so I can go get a fudgesicle!" LOL (I bribe my models with fudgesicles)

What excites me about this shot are his eyes- notice the catchlights... the scene is actually backlit with sunlight, but I got light on his face and a nice reflection in his eyes by placing a large white piece of foamboard directly under the camera. You can actually clearly see the shape of the board. Such fun, is the photography stuff! Laughing
