I've just discovered and bought an amazing bit of software, the like of which I've been after for a while. Nikon - Camera Control Pro. Connect the camera to the computer via the USB and control the camera from the PC or by hand and download directly to the PC and view instantly. The pictures don't even go on the memory card. I paid £29 for the program, but suspect it is available cheaper.

It has, within minutes, changed my entire experience of studio work. It's brilliant! The frustration of faffing about, taking the card to the computer, downloading, checking, putting the card back in the camera, taking the next shots and so on, and on, and on, is OVER!

battery life could be a problem

just remembered that when I purchased the d70, there were 2 software programs that came with it, one had same capability, but can't remember if it was the one that needed to be purchased or the one that as free

I don't intend to use it other than for studio work, I can't imagine using it on any kind of location work unless it's specific modeling work, and I am not there yet.

Yeah a lot of sports pros use them, take the pic, transmitted to the laptop, emailed to newsroom in seconds and all automatic, i have seen a couple of studios here use them too.

Canon also give this away with there software bundle, i have used it in a hide before you can even set it up on a timer so it takes the photos automatically,

I couldn't find one for the D80 in a search, but the price of others dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. I think I shall have to cope with a USB lead for a bit longer. Very Happy

nikon's site seems to suggest nikon view was discontinued this year but camera control pro is still listed as a 'current' product

edit £49.99 from park cameras

another edit £28.95 from speedgraphic but out of stock Sad

It looks as though they have superseded it with http://nikonimaging.com/global/pr...s/software/control_pro2/index.htm
