A recently unveiled Casio camera, claimed to be able to shoot still images at 60 frames per second (fps) at full resolution, will be available 'within a year' if all goes according to plan.

David Hodgkinson Casio UK's brand manager for Consumer Marketing told AP: 'The product is purely a prototype at this stage, although there is a definite intention to bring the product, or a development of it, to market.'

He added: 'As far as launch timings go, we haven't finalised these at this point but are aiming to commercialise the camera within a year.'

Casio unveiled the 6-million-pixel prototype (pictured) at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, Germany last week.

Billed as the world's 'fastest shooting digital camera', features are expected to include a movie rate of 300fps and a 12x optical zoom lens designed to deliver the equivalent 35mm viewing angle of a 35-420mm lens.

The, as yet, unnamed model will deploy a CMOS-shift image stabilisation system to help combat camera shake.

Also on board, according to the spec, will be a 2.8in LCD screen with a resolution of 230,000 pixels.

In a press release, Casio added: 'Using the Pre-shot Burst Mode (a ultra-high speed continuous shooting mode that captures images from the scene prior to the moment when you actually press the shutter button) users can be confident they will never miss the most crucial photographic moment.'
