Open the picture. The first thing to do is to smooth the picture and the part of the picture I am most concerned with is the cheek. We just need to get a smooth cheek and all the rest will fall into place. Click on Filters > Noise > Reduce Noise, and once the palette is open click on advanced. The settings I used are below, but have a play and choose whatever suits you. 'Strength' relates to how much noise reduction you want to apply, 'Preserve Detail' lets you decide how much detail to preserve. 'Color Noise' wont show a great effect but will take out a bit more noise so I set that to 100%. Have a play with Sharpen Detail, it wont affect the cheek much but will affect the hat and other details so whatever takes your fancy, I kept mine to 0 though. On the channel Tab, it defaults to red and just set that to Strength 10 and Preserve detail 0, that'll get rid of a bit more detail from the cheek. Ok that when you're happy.
Once you are back to the picture, choose the Zoom tool and drag a box to zoom into the cheek so that we can do some close work on it. Select the healing tool and change the settings to reduce the hardness a bit.
Clean up the cheek so that it is pretty smooth, Select a smooth area similar in colour to the bit you want to clean up by holding Alt and left Clicking and them click on the area you are cleaning up. Keep doing this until you are happy with the result.
It should be starting to look good, we are, after all, creating a god here and any ladies doing this should keep a grip from here on.
Double click on the Hand Tool to zoom out and right click on the picture in the layers palette and duplicate it and set the blend mode for this top layer to Overlay.
Click on the layer below this and choose, Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and reduce the Saturation to -100. Choose Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow, my settings were Grain - 0, Glow Amount - 10, Clear Amount - 15.Choose Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation again and click the Colorize box. Keep the saturation low and choose a Hue that you like. My settings are below.
That's about it. If you see any blemishes you want to get rid of you can do some more healing on either layer until you achieve that god like look.
Last, but not least, it wont be the same as my one in the members area because I don't just use Photoshop, there are tools in Coral PSPX that are quick and easy and do exactly what I want them to do and I am very familiar with them. But this is as near as I can get just using Photoshop, though I am sure it can be improved upon.
If you want to include the eyes from the original, flatten this image, then duplicate it and paste Chris's original picture between the two pictures, by clicking on the bottom layer and pasting in the original. Click on the top layer, zoom in on the eyes and using a soft eraser brush about size 13, opacity 100% erase the eyes from the top layer.
You're really welcome, hope it goes well and it isn't too weird working on yourself. That's my lot for tonight, sleep well mate, when you finally finish playing and crash. _________________
The same job using Paint Shop Pro X or Photo XI. Open the picture, select Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Clarify. Set Strength of Effect to 2.00, ok.
Select Adjust > Digital Camera Noise Removal. Set the sampling points to smooth the areas on the cheek. Ok.
Using the Makeover - Blemish Fixer Tool set to about size 16, strength 50, click on any blemished areas that need smoothing. This tool has two circles, it samples from the outer circle to the inner circle. which is great for skin but not so good when the outer circle encounters areas of high contrast.
Once the picture is how you want it, right click on the image in the layers palette and duplicate it and set the blend mode to Overlay.
Click on the background layer and choose Effects > Photo Effects > Infrared Film. Set the strength to 50, Flare: 50 and Grain: 0.
Choose Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize and choose setting that work for you.
That's it, though if you want to include the original eyes use the same technique at the end of the top walk through. In PSP the Eraser tool needs to be about size 12, Hardness and Opacity - 50.
Just did this Keith and its left a halo around one part of the image that I am working on. Any ideas why? and how i get rid of it. Check out the portraits area to see what I was working on. _________________ The sun cannot set,

Never so much as a burp of Carlburg. I've been wondering myself and thought I might send him a PM. In fact thinking about it is crap, I'll go and do it. _________________
not seen Chris around for a while...anyone heard from him?
Haven't heard from him, but I saw him logged on to the site within the last two weeks or so. I was surprised he didn't post up. _________________ see my photography at john.seelbinder.org
