There are many softbox products out there you can buy.

But this DIY softbox looks like it might be fun to try - not to mention cheap Laughing

He also has done a DIY ring flash, but I don't think the result was as good.

Just saw this... but YAY, this is going to be so helpful to me.  I am going out with a large group of women to a bar in mid-Feb, and we were going to begin the evening with a cocktail-theme photoshoot.  I have been wracking my brain trying to think of how I could modify my speedlight without opening up a huge umbrella in the bar, LOL (trying to be a "little" bit discreet here, LOL, even though my speedlight going off will be sure to attract attention.)  I can use something like this and then stick it under the table after (or, you know, maybe do some quick barbequeing, LOL)

Nice finds John, just wish I'd watched Blue Peter more as I'm rubbish at making things like that.

Might be interesting to see the results if some of our members decide to have a go at making them.
