believe it or not but this image was taken about 2 years ago, and I didn't like it, in colour the actual stonework has an awful green tinge to it. As I haven't been out as much with the camera, weather here has been abysmal I have been looking through past images, and now that my image editing has improved, I can make the difference to those older images.
There was quite a bit of work to get the image I posted, but I did learn a lot the best being how to increase the darkness of the lines and folds - had never thought of let alone used the find edges filter on a new layer and working that into the image - it worked quite well.
Will be experimenting now over a period of time.
cheers

How interesting, the weather turns out to be a mixed blessing because I've been doing much the same Dave. I've started using the High Pass filter for sharpening only recently and am much impressed with the results. For anyone who's never tried it, duplicate the image, set blend mode to Overlay, add High Pass filter at around 0.5 - 2, my usual at present is 1.5.
Here is the difference in an image I did over a year ago and now, the High Pass filter just being one of several ways I now do things differently.
