Gilly love the first shot and agree with john about the conversion (nice job). Even though I agree with your own verdict and others about the second been to busy, I do like the contrast in colour between the poles and the sky. _________________
Love the first one Classic composition with converging lines leading the eye into the distance. Clean and balanced, and the single colour helps to knit it all together. Very nice.
The second one really has too much going on. With the rails being harder to see, this lacks the impact of the first one.
Comparing the two images is a testament to the adage that 'less is more'.

The first one is terrific,,, can't really add anything that hasn't been said, but the lighting, the duotone, the compostion... this is one I wish I had taken myself. Beauty.
