Thank you. Ya'll are so kind Smile

I'm pretty much a whatever moves me kinda girl although I'm trying to start my own portrait studio *crosses fingers*

I'm in desperate need of a light meter and a flash. I can't seem to get my exposure just right for portraits with this studio lighting so hopefully I can get some help with that and I have no clue about light meters Confused

I really like the forum it looks great and it's got so much information I'm not even really sure where to start LOL

Hi Jenkies,

Tell us what equipment you have or are using at the moment, and any that maybe you have seen so we can try to advice you on maybe a better route to take. (maybe you already have what you need but are not using it to it's full potential)

Also you say you are having trouble with your exposure. Put up a picture so we can see.

Tricky shot, that's quite a bit of burn out on the white. Nice shot though.

daft question, as I have no idea of studio lights

but what about dialling in some exposure compensation on camera???

Oh.. forgot to add, that looks like some hell of a studio set up

Am sure someone on here will help get to the bottom of the problem

You've got me very intrigued, I'm going to set up a similar situation, sans baby, and just have a go. I like puzzles like this. Letcha know how it goes, if at all.

I don't know if this is remotely useful... I think my main flash unit is a 65W Halgen and that was 45deg to the right and 4' away, the slave is 208W and was 30deg left and 3' 6" away. This was the result.

Lovely shot, JenkiesLuv. Looking at the histogram, you have scope in the levels palette to set the white at 231 and the black to 7 to achieve perfection. But then I have been accused of being sadly anally retentive.

There is going to be a lot of studio chat in the coming months so it's fantastic to have you here, I know Adam has recently set himself up with studio lights, as have I and I think Mike is headed in that direction. So it's going to be fun.

Hi Jenkies,

Most people on here are using flickr as their off site storage host.
It's free and you can upload up to 100Mb per month max 5Mb per picture.

All you do is resize the picture to 600 on the biggest side and save it in a separate folder using Paintshop pro , Photoshop or whatever you use. (remember to use SAVE AS so you don't overwrite the original) and then upload to flickr. Use the link they give you to link it to the site and the picture is there.

Sorry for the poor explanation hope it makes sense if you need anything clarifying give me a shout.

Mike

Also would advise saving at 72dpi as well
