Sister coming down for weekend to do some images of my neice, so had another play with the lights, trying to get all wireless connections to work - they did, what a joy

No comments on the handsome model - he is already claimed

but does the lighting look Ok, or should I try a reflector to the left hand side to reduce shadows

managed to get the light behind to fire and other flash was reflected by umbrella rather than through softbox (trying it for a change) at around 45 degrees

Tricky question Dave, I think the lighting as is is perfect for you, I'd try the lighting as you've got it here, and maybe with a reflector well. It'd give you a comparison which would hopefully be valuable.

thanks Keith

My niece is pretty shy, so have no idea as to how it will go

She is also much prettier and will not be as "red" as myself

Will put up the shots after the weekend

Not wanting to teach my grandmother to suck eggs Dave, maybe asking her if she wants some music on while you both do it and let her choose what sort, it may ease her into the whole thing and maybe give her a feeling of some control in the situation and ease her shyness. Good luck, and I wouldn't complain, you're prettier than I am. Look forward to the results.  Laughing

I think a reflector would help, especially with a girl as the model, you maybe want less "drama" with your shadows.  However, it also kind of depends on the shape of her face- if your neice is overweight or has a particularly wide face, your current set-up might help to thin it out.
Good luck with the shoot!  Some things that really helped me last time was having some detailed, written-out ideas for what types of shots I wanted, and also pretty much talking and joking non-stop through the shoot.  If you can get them laughing it really helps. Smile  Also, compliments never hurt- tell her what amazing shots you are getting, and how natural she is in front of the camera, etc.  Girls love that.  If she believes you, then she'll act the part. :D
