If you still have layers - flatten the image

when done - or there is onl;y  the background layer
go to Image/Mode

Change mode to 8bit

What dave said Smile

When you create an hdr image it's in 32-bit colour. Once you've tonemapped it, convert it to 16-bit for the rest of the PP - you can save the 16-bit as a tif if you need to.

you need to go to 8 bit, then jpeg is an option

keep the tiff separatley if you want to retain overall quality for future printing etc
