A plant, think it's a weed.I was going to enter this in the comp but decided not to, still pretty pleased with it though. What do you think?

I like the lines the stems create and the pink on black, my only comment is not sure where you focal point is.

Hmm, intersting point, it's the foreground flower, but I wanted a deep DoF (f16) so see what you mean.

Hmmm - agree w/Mike.
But the dof seems a bit shallow? Not everything is in focus, or if you really wanted to isolate the flower, then maybe the dof is too deep?
I like the twin stalks - they mimic each other in form, colour and shape. But to make the flower the centre of attention, I think I'd move the camera left to place the flower so that it's not competing with something immediately in the background (like the stem). But that may result in losing the twins though, I suspect.
If it were me, I think I'd try to relocate the camera angle as mentioned, and either decrease the dof so that only the flower was in focus, or go to the other extreme and make sure everything is pin sharp.
Without seeing the result, I'm not sure that's the right thing to do, but it's my first thought.
On the other hand, I do like the geometry of the shapes in this shot. Another thought is to make the shapes the focal point instead of the flower, but I think then everything needs to be pin sharp. And the stem behind the flower will still be distracting - maybe a small change in camera location will rectify that and still maintain the side-by-side twin shapes?
Sorry - I don't know - idle thoughts from an unfocussed mind, or is that unfocussed thoughts from an idle mind

Thanks John I really appreciate what you have written here, I am going to have another go at this today to see what I can come up with. It's another of those, 'there's a shot here' somewhere. You've helped me look harder at the setting, if I get anything that is vaguely worth keeping I'll put it up.

Bother, it's changed beyond all recognition. Don't you just hate that.

Yeah - it's happened to me before. Very frustrating to say the least.
As my aunt says, "it simply wasn't meant to be".
It's still a very nice shot. I like the colours and the structure of the stems.

Been back to this a few times now and although I like the shapes, I have to agree with Mike

I wish I could have set this up again and used different angles, DoF and so on, I've been looking around to see if I can't find another subject because it would be a great exersize.

To me it resembles two pairs of arms reaching up to the sky. I think the tips of those arms should be the focal point, because that is the most dramatic part of the shot, and what my eye goes to first. The pink against the black is lovely.

What a good point, thanks Blue, they are the strongest part of the image. I hadn't gone that far in appraising it.

Very good point - that may be why I like the structure of the image so much.
