Advice on 35mm lens with digital slrMate of mine has a Canon T70 35mm SLR with 3 lenses. He wants to buy a Canon digital SLR and wonders if the lenses will fit the new camera. Does anyone know if they would?
He also wants recommendation for the new camera. he likes my 350d but wants to know what else is available around that price bracket plus £100 or so.
Thanks for any advice

Hi Derek,
The T70 uses the "FD" mount where the new canons use the "EF" mount, he could probably get a converter but some functions would be lost and would he get the benefits of a new camera by putting old lenses on?.
There are lots of good cameras around at the moment, you don't say how much he's seen the 350D for but for between £400 - £500 he could get the Canon 400D with 18 - 55 lens or the Nikon D40X with kit lens the Sony alpha A100 with lens or Pentax K10D or Olympus E 410. If he looks on http://www.dpreview.com/ he can get a review on each (he'll find there all pretty much the same).
Has he thought about buying secondhand? theres the Canon 20D or Nikon D70 or D70s and he could use the extra cash to put to wards some good glass (lens).
Have a look here http://www.warehouseexpress.com/ for the prices, if he shops around you'll possibly find them cheaper.
Hope this helps

Derek, take a look at the Pentax K100D (or rather send your friend shopping). Ok, so it's 6mp (so's my KM5D and I can print to A2 no problem) but it has anti-shake and with kit lens is £299 - add in a 70-300mm zoom and still get change from £400.
