Ok, a few questions. Am I doing something wrong? I am rarely happy with the pictures that come out of my camera, I always edit them, usually giving them more oomph. Do I overcook my pictures? Or, how do I get better results from my camera?

First thought - are the "in camera" settings set up correctly? That is the saturation, sharpen, etc menus
second - in my opinion, the color is boosted a shade to much, the original looks more natural
Third - it may need a monitor calibration, I know my images are always on the lighter side than those that get printed out - not sure if that fits the question!!!

Thanks so much Dave, I'll check the camera, hadn't even looked at the saturation, sharpen, etc menus. So duh on that one.
I can see that the picture is overcooked, which is what prompted the question, if you see what I mean.
I have calibrated my monitor so think that is alright, though my Laptop isn't and I can't seem to get it right, so I attempt nothing on that other than running the studio setup. That's ok here, but if I go away and take the Laptop and want to do any editing, I'm stuffed.

I'd second what dave said about the second one looking a little over boosted. be interested to know how it came back after you sorted out the menus.
