Arizona USA

Popped down to Vegas for a lil trip with the missus, with the sole intention of escaping Vegas and getting out into the vastness that is the MidWest US..........  Rented a 16-35mm L lens to bolt to the front of my FF body....  Very Happy  (new purchase maybe?  Happy Xmas Neil!!!)

Visited the North rim of the Grand Canyon.  We had sunset to ourselves, after a 4 hour drive through some amazing countryside:

Headed further east in the dark for another couple of hours to Antelope Canyon.  We took a photographers tour of the canyon the following morning:

Then went south for 5 minutes to Horseshoe Bend - a very famous turn in the mightly Colorado River.....
(those are rafts on the river at the right of the bend, 1000ft below)

Enjoy!!!

JAW dropping.

And one of those places on that list to do before the world ends. (is that a mushroom cloud in the first one?)

Many thanks for sharing these.

so so jealous - on my list of places to visit too

these shots are fantastic - i hope you are rightly proud of yourself Smile  it's a crying shame about the flare in the first one, but it's still a gorgeous shot

Thanks guys

Dave - the mushroom cloud is a controlled forest / scrub fire over on the South Rim.  Its about 20 miles away.......

Jon - yup I am a little annoyed by the flare too  Sad   I guess its due in part to the wide angle lens with limited hood (i.e. its not ALL my fault!  Very Happy ).  I have a couple of others that i'll work on given a chance and see what comes of the flare in those!

They are superb. The shots from the photographers tour are amazing. Where has that fantastic light come from? Very "out of this world" kinda look.

You must have had a great time with "the missus" lol. Anything to tell us? Rolling Eyes

Hi Derek
The light is from the sky - the canyon is a 'slot' canyon, in that there are parts of it that are open to the sky, via very narrow cracks (like a foot or so wide).......

Melissa - not a Mrs.  so much as a missus!!!!!   Razz

WOW, all superb shots.

looks like you had a great trip.

interesting that people mention the flare. I personally think it adds to the shot. its an absolutely amazing shot, the sun adds to it, i'm sure it would have been amazing without it too, but its there, i like it.
