Autumn MallardsAn experiment, which turned out OK, I think.
This was shot in very low light and at high ISO as the sun was disappearing rapidly. I brought it back to life with some noise reduction and PS magic - I think it's acceptable at this size (I wouldn't want to try to print it though )
The reflections from the autumn leaves and the light were magical.

This is one of the reasons I want to learn to sit still. The colours are all there, but only waiting brings the ducks, the life, the sparkle. I love this shot John, it just swallows me up.

love the colours, lighting and frame, not too happy on the composition though John - feel the mallards would have been better placed a little lower in the frame and more to the left
But I still like it

I find that I derive great enjoyment from simply enjoying nature. Unless I need to be doing something else, I can sit and soak in the beauty forever. I don't even care if I have my camera with me or not.
But it's when I leave the camera behind that the most interesting things seem to happen
Fortunately, I was on vacation when I took this, so I had all the time in the world. It was right out in front of the cabin I was staying at. The first 2 or 3 days I was there, I was simply enjoying the view. After missing several opportunities, I learned to sit and enjoy the view with my camera. A lesson (hopefully) learned.
When I bring the camera with the intent of getting pictures like this, it rarely happens. I guess you can't force it. Many of my best pictures are from when I'm not in a hurry. I just sit there, relax, and enjoy what's around me, and that's when I see things I didn't see before, or interesting things happen.
But if nothing happens, I still go home happy for just being there and enjoying the view.

I love the colours... and think the composition is fine as this way it captures the wake behind the ducks. The one at the back seems to be looking back at you :D

love the pic, hate the frame i'm afraid! it doesn't really frame it for me, a contrasting colour might have worked better imho

Thanks Shirley! You see exactly what I was trying to convey
The ducks were swimming away, so having them appear to be moving out of the frame is appropriate. And I wanted to include the wake behind them.

LOL
Couldn't agree more. I don't know what I was thinking at the time. The more I look at this, the more I'm blinded by that frame!
I will have to fix that!
Thanks Jon.

Good point. It won't cost me anything to see how it turns out.
Experience tells me not to expect a good image, but who knows? I'll give it a try.
I'll start with a smaller image like an A6, and if that looks OK, I'll try something larger, like A4.
Thanks Chris.
