Better late than neverBeen lurking (and a bit od posting) for a while now. I ran into this site from a MySpace reference.
I live in SE Minnesota (USA). I am a 56 year old computer geek. Not retired... just tired.
I have a Canon Rebel Ti. I sold (gave away) the kit lens with a Rebel G that I sold. I use a nice Canon 50mm and a Tamron 70-300.
I have found out a few truths about myself since I started taking photos.
1. I cannot hold a Tamron 70-300mm steady. I HAVE to use a tripod (or, if I'm lucky, my monopod).
2. I am quite impressed with how my brain can ignore all the distracting stuff when I take the photo, only to have them reappear when the film is developed. I am familiar with the cloning tool
3. I have developed a tendency to look at everything (and everyone) as a photo. How would this look? What settings would I use? I have been accused of "staring". I try to explain that I am just "setting up the photo". Sometimes they understand, sometimes I just get funny looks.
4. My pockets may be deep, but my arms are short.
I am hoping to get a Nikon D40 or a Canon 350D by year end. I have a new granddaughter coming in August and I may go broke buying & developing film.

So, if I get a digital, my 70-300 will actually be a 100-450? That would be much nicer for bird photos.
As for MySpace. When I first saw the "advert" for this place, I was a bit "yeah, right, whatever". I find most URL references in MySpace tend to be teenage BS. However, since being here a while and seeing the caliber of folks on the site, I am more than happy to recommend it anyone.
I would say a get together somewhere in the middle would be nice, but I can't swim

Top intro and welcome. I must say I am falling in love with my Tamron 70-300mm a little more each day, even if the bloody thing keeps moving even if I am holding it still.

Thanks again.
I have learned one thing in my many years wiorking with computers:
There 10 kinds of people in the world... Those that understand binary and those that don't.
