Bloody digital photo frames!

I have just picked up a 7" digital Photo frame in the sales for £30, Bargain I thought, that is, until I started trying to use it.

Why oh why does every new gadget on the market have to reinvent the wheel, and present users with a completely non intuitive, heavy handed, bloody awful setup and user interface? I mean why?

The destructions told me the max size of pic for optimum use, and showed that the frame could be used vertically as well as horizontally. Marvellous I thought. Except that it cannot and will not display any picture other than in Landscape. Surely, in order for it to do that they'd have to program that into the chip, wouldn't a dumb chip display landscape as landscape and portrait as portrait? So some muppet has programmed the damn thing to completely mess my head up.

I ran through my images three times (twice, lovingly resizing them individually)  before I realised that it didn't matter what I did they were all going to display landscape anyway and all I had to do was a huge batch process setting the hight for the landscape size and press GO.

What an absolute bloody useless bunch of W**K**S!

So anyone contemplating buying a MATSUI 7" digital photo frame......... you have been warned.

You could do what I do in situations like that - call in the assistance of a teenager.   Very Happy  Joking aside, I hope you do get it sorted out. I've been wondering about those frames myself but to be honest they never seem to have any set up in the shop for you to actually view.

Do you know what, I did forget the golden rule of getting a teenager to do it for me.

It's running alright now, everything fell into place after I slapped myself around the head with a mallet and put my brain in idiot mode.

Maybe what I should do when I get these nasty, brainless, pieces of crap, is take 100mg of Valium before opening the box.

Mike, just to prove how completely done over I am, I thought I had put this in Room 101, could you move it there please? Sorry.

Number one gift this Xmas........  Shocked

(the frame, not the teenager to come and set up the frame!!!)

You ought to embrace the development of technology, not shy away from it!!!!!  Razz

I love technology, 3 computers, sat nav, phone, Effects pedal for guitar, DSLR,studio and I can't think what else, what I dislike is bad technology and dumb, stupid, daft, inexcusable, bad programming.

I also enjoy a good rant every now and then, as you may have noticed.  Laughing

So now youve got it set up, what is the photo quality like? £30 is a very good price for a digital photo frame. Any chance of a photo of said photo frame in action??  Shocked

Quite interested myself

Can't get my head about having another trailing power cable about.

Anyway, will be interested to hear what you think about it after a few days.

I agree about the power cable Dave though mine is out of sight.

Here's a screen shot, resolution is rubbish (might be a case of you get what you pay for). So I guess it'll just sit there and auntie Mabel can coo at it and say, 'lovely dear'.

hil26

Good job you did not get one when they first came out then, when they were over £100.

Not overly impressed by the resolution - what does it claim to be?

Absolutely!

I'll give you as much information as they gave me.

Screen ration (Confused ) 16:9
Effective viewing area : 15.4 x 8.6 cm
Supports up to 12MB JPEG pictures
Variety of transition effects and speeds for slide show function
Adjustable stand for landscape or portrait display

Hmm, doesn't look too good close up but probably looks better viewed from across a room.
creators

Yeah, it's actually ok, and as a 1GB stick will hold about 10.000,000 pictures at the size of the screen, it's a lot cheaper than all those picture frames.   Laughing

Er, not sure about the maths, largest file size is 100KB.

Could you possibly do a screen shot, just to give me something else to whinge about? And, if you don't mind me asking, what size is it and how much was it?  Laughing

The expensive alternative - microsoft's xbox360 acts as a media extender so you can run slideshows on your telly from a pc elsewhere on the network

Slight technical issue, I wont have a television within shooting distance of the house. Now there's a rant just waiting to happen.

I've just had a look on John Lewis website where I bought it from and cant find it anymore - typical.  Its 7" black screen surround and was from memory over £100.  Will try to do a screen shot if i get time at the weekend.
