Borders

Ok so I'm feeling thick. Been trying to work this out for ages and even asked keith and he's stumped. How do I put a border round a picture.

All I want to do is increase the canvas size, and add a black line half way between the edge of the picture and the edge of the canvas. At the moment i'm doing it by drawing four lines.

Any help appreciated.

Is this what you mean Simon -

I'm fascinated to see if your cheat is the same as mine because I can never remember any of the 'official' ways. Is it by increasing canvas size (centred), fill that with colour, increase for the line, fill that, then increase again for the last part of the border and fill?
Venom

Yep thats the one Keith, seems easier than Simon's drawing the line in but there must be a simpler way.

I'll check the tutorials I've got, but I think that method is as simple as it gets. Though I am sure we would be scorned out of existence on other high brow sites. I'm a great believer in keeping things simple.

If you have Photoshop, there are some great free actions that put frames on images.

I've got a set of 50 odd A4 photo frames that you can apply using screen blend mode. If anyone is interested I can zip them up and put them on the web somewhere. Also, another way of getting that border is to increase the canvas size to include the first white area plus the size of the black line, flatten Image, then Edit > Stroke to add your black line, then increase the canvas size to the finished size and flatten the image again. If you want to be able to play around more with the frame you can do all the framing on a separate layer, but to use the stroke commands you need to Select All on the new layer.

Did you want to enlarge on those free frame actions Dave?

Be right back

edit

just sent a zip file by email to you Keith

its an action for photoshop

save it in the actions directory fo PS

then chose the action when finsihed image wants framing

there are lots of various settings to chosse but it does a step through

am away at the minute so cannot go into any great detail at the moment

just a quick play with action set mentioned, image is of my elder daughter

there is a texture to the mats, that do not show up very well at 72dpi and 600, but it can all be altered, including shape and bevels

just changed the colours - better i think

Yeh second frame is definitely better, adds to the picture (not just in size either Smile )
