Bramham International Horse Trials, June 2006More digging from the archives, this time from the cross-country day at Bramham in June. I'd never been to an event like this so it was quite interesting to be shooting a familiar subject but in a different environment. I ended up learning quite a bit from the day, although I've probably forgotten most of it again as I've not been out shooting horses since then!
I tried knocking the 70-200 in by a couple of stops to f/3.5 to see if I got super-sharp images back, but to be honest I hate the increase in depth of field it's resulted in. I'm definitely going to go back to f/2.8 for racing for the upcoming season - having the crowd in focus is just too distracting

Great Work Jon, got to agree about the depth of field though. I hope this is a very successful year for you.

Agree with you as well John about the depth of field, I suppose you could maybe get away with it on the race coarse but with this type of event the crowd tend to surround where the action is i.e the jumps which makes it nearly impossible not to have them in the frame somewhere.
Great shots again by the way

some great shots, and being in the right place at the right time certainly helped - looking at the falling rider - brilliant.
Agreed on DOF front
2007 looks like being a good year for you, best of luck and am looking forward to seeing some more super images.
