Extension tubesI am thinking about getting a set of extension tubes for my D40. Every one I see on E-Bay (aside from coming from China) says that there is no electrical connection; must manual focus. I have never used ETs before. Is this normal? Should I be able to find a set for the D40 that uses auto focus?

I have a Kenko set (12mm, 20mm and 36mm) that's AF for my D80 which I would imagine is almost certainly going work on your D40. But, and here's the thing, I almost exclusively use them on manual focus, and for really close work, and we're talking a cm or so here, I choose all my setting, set the lens up and physically move the camera until I have the shot I want. It's really close, tight work, and moving the whole sheebang is a lot easier than fiddling around with the focus. But I am glad I paid the extra for the AF, it gives me that extra option and I like that.
Edit: if you are planning on extention tubes you might want to think about getting a macro slide, I use this one and it's brilliant. I couldn't find one on the UK ebay site, but this show you what I am talking about.

I edited my original post hoping it'd be up there for when you read the post, but you were so lightning fast in response you probably missed it. Just mentioning a macro slide. Cheers, Keith.

I can't tell, from the pictures and deascription, how it works.

I hope this helps. If it's as clear as mud, let me know. Using the micro adjuster you can move the camers into position with the exact focus you want.

I get it. For some reason I was thinking it was intended to "replace" extension tubes. Rather, it seems to allow "micro" adjustments of camera position to allow proper focusing. Am I correct?
