Happens every yearEvery year at some point the fields around the river near where I live get flooded. The local travellers commandeer these empty fields to keep their horses in. Local people feed them whilst visiting the swans by the river and consequently, the wooden fencing gets broken, meaning the council has had to repair the fencing many times. This year it seems they are trying to discourage the travellers from keeping horses in the fields by not repairing fences.
So now, they're all squeezed into 2 fields that are flooded and my wife and I took a walk along there today. The horses are a real mess, only having the higher narrow field edges to walk around. Their manes are matted with mud. I think the first photo says it all. That horse looks a pitiful sight.

The RSPCA will say they are monitoring it and the horses are not in danger. The thing that really annoys me is that whenever this situation crops up and is reported in the local paper, the "spokesman" says that as they do not know who the owners are, there is nothing they can do. Everyone knows who the owners are but they daren't go into the travellers site
