Hello from New Member

Bought my first digital camera a couple of years ago - a Canon Powershot A80. Then last year bought a Canon EOS350D -going halves with my teenage son. For the first year I wasn't allowed to touch it or if I did, I wasn't doing it right! However this year he has a new hobby and I've been able to start learning how to use it. There's a lot to learn and I will be asking lots of silly questions!

Seen some great photos on here and might post up a few of mine later.

cheers

OK heres my first silly question. I use Photobucket and having checked the rules for posting photos on here, i see the max pixel size on one side is 600. photobucket's nearest size is 640 x 480. i don't know how to easily change it. can anyone help or must i use flickr?

I always save a second image at 600 for posting onto flickr (assume you can do same on photobucket) and use that to post on here

Hi Derek,

640 will be OK so don't worry about that. I don't use Photobucket but a question for you, when you upload your picture to Photobucket what size do you make it? Is it the full image size from camera or do you resize it for the web? Does Photobucket then sort your picture into arrange of sizes for you to use?

I think I'll sign up with Photobucket as this question as popped up before so I'll see if I can sort it from the inside.

OK think I see how it works, it's similar to flickr but the sizes they convert your image to as standard are different. If your wanting a specific size like 600 then you need to upload it at that size and then use the image you uploaded (full size not one of the options, just click on your image and copy and paste the img code your given into the forum).

With Photobucket your limited to a max image size: 1024 x 768 or 1mb unless you upgrade to their pro account $25 per year or $3 per month your then still limited to image sizes of 2240 x 1680 or 2mb in size and 5Gb of storage.

All I do is upload my photos directly to Photobucket which resizes them automatically. Bit too much faffing to alter all the sizes before uploading to Photobucket as that in itself takes long enough in my mind. I might try Flickr for future photos although most of my photos are already on Photobucket.

Thanks all,

derek

Hey Mike - why not change the forum and comp rules to allow a max size on a side to 650 px? As you said in another post, the 30 - 50 px really doesn't make that much difference. This would accomodate both Flickr and Photobucket's default image sizes.

Thats a good idea, do we know of any other hosting sites that members use and what sizes they filter them into?
Makes it easier, as you say 50 pixels is neither here or there
