Hidden Gem in CS3 - combining two exposures into 1 image
I know that a lot of people do not have this, but just found out about this technique for combining two exposures on one image.
Need to use RAW file and the RAW converter - technique uses Smart Objects which means its non destructive all the way to the last step
Open image in RAW converter, and expose for the foreground, get foreground correct for you then look at the link at the mid bottom
click on it and up comes this dialogue
ensure the bottom box is ticked (open as smart object)
First image (Foreground) - demo only - not for critique - obvious reasons
then right click on the layer that is now open
Select "New smart object via copy"
Right click on this new layer
Select "Edit"
and up comes the RAW converter screen again, expose for the sky this time and ok it when happy
Second image (Sky)
using the new layer, "the exposed for sky one"
select the foreground
then from the menus
layer/layer mask/hide selection
and there it is
Its best to save at this point as everything is editable, once saved
the technique says you should rasterize (not too sure what that does at the moment) then do wahtever else you wish
Hope that all makes sense - NOTE all images are captured from screen so some flaws may be seen
Final note - the image of the landslip was one I was looking for for the movement comp, but it did not come out very well, so still looking
