Jim BrandenburgJim Brandenburg gave a presentation at a local university on Thursday night. Fantastic pictures. He says he considers himself more of an artist than a photographer. In fact, he said, he has never taken a photography course.
I did notice that the majority of his photos seem to be taken with a wide angle lens and shot low, looking up.
I got to like his stuff after I watched a show on tv about his "Chased By the Light" project. If you are unfamiliar with that, he went to the North Woods of Minnesota (where he is from) and gave himself the task to push the shutter release only one time a day for 90 days. For a total of 90 photos. He said it was very difficutl, being a photographer for National Geographic. He was used to shooting hundreds of rolls while on assignment.
Another intreresting thing he mentioned is that he is completely digital now. He wishes he could go back and reshoot some of his earlier work using his didgital camera.
All in all it was a very interesting, albeit long (2 hours), presentation. If you've never seen any of his photos, google him. He's all over the net.
