A fine shot and he was lucky to only lose his helmet. Are all the white spots around his head spit and teeth?

Fan favourite!
Fabulous! Not only a great action shot, but a subject which interests me immensely (I live on the wrong continent ).
Love the colours, the freeze action and, well, everything about it!
Ouch - that's gotta hurt

It's a great shot, full of action and a little drama. If I had to be picky the only thing that spoils it for me is the man on the horse in the background, just that little bit distracting for me.
Was he alright after that (very lucky to still have his head)

Now that is picky, I was too busy watching "the event" to notice that little fella at the back

Gotta say, I think that chap at the back is a great part of the mood of the picture.

Yeh it's picky i know, but just a comment. Draws my eye from the action / main part of the picture.

I did try a tighter crop, but too much of the horses' legs were lost and it just didn't look right
sadly the number of decent spots to get the shot from were limited - there were two of us down by the rails, me and a shooter from the yorkshire post, and we'd both decided the same spot was best!
i was still in my 'don't shoot wide open' mode to get maximum sharpness when i went to the armouries - maybe if i'd actually taken this at f/2.8 instead of f/3.3 he might have blurred enough not to be distracting.
the difficult thing with the shots was getting a fairly head-on angle but not being too far away.. i'm not getting defensive here btw, just informing on shooting conditions on the day
