Thanks! I liked it a lot, too. I do wish the background was smoother, I can see some rippling of the fabric that's bothering me. Seems like all of my shots are jimmy-rigged at the last second. This fabric was "taped" to a window behind, and kept falling down all throught the shoot. Eventually I will get my act together and do things properly...

Spot on! Great photo. Wonder if it would look good in B&W too?

Hmm- I don't know about doing it in black and white. I like the colors in it a lot, personally. Just my pref, though.
The funny thing about this shot is that istock just rejected it- they said it was out of focus. Go figure. They are REALLY picky. It's kind of frustrating, but on the other hand I have to really bring my game up, which is a good thing.
Thanks for the feedback. You're all fired, LOL.

blue, i reckon you can get rid of the ripples in the background using the dodge and burn tool in PS (do you have ps!) i always get mixed up, but one darkens and the other lightens!
if you need any assistance or want me to do it give me a shout..
nice image by the way!

Ok, thanks! Right now I'm working with the trial version of Elements- not sure if it has that tool or not, I will have to check.

Blue, Elements does have the Dodge and Burn tool.
You'll find it at 1, Select whether Dodge or Burn at 2 (Burn darkens, Dodge lightens), Select whether to affect Highlights/Midtone/Shadows at 3, and keep the Exposure at no more than 3 - 4% at 4. At 3 - 4% you can build the effect slowly, any more and it gets freaky.

nice one Keith...
question!
if you want a totally black background, then why not 100% exposure?
seems to work ok for me...?!

Arr, well, good call Adam. I answered with my brain in neutral, not considering the particular application of it you were recommending here. How does duh sound? I would be tempted, though, to select and feather the whole background section just to avoid any harsh edges round the subject (just as a precaution).

Wow- thank you so much! What a wonderful compliment.
(most of the credit goes to my extremely photogenic children, though. My self-portraits are generally horrid )
