New Canon EOS 1D Mk III

Take a look at THIS Beast.

Heres the white paper version: Here
jonH

beast is teh right word :-o

Fast but bit dissappointed with it only being 10 thought they may try and push closer to 12
richard

nothing wrong with it only being a '10'......most of the sports shooters use a Mk11 N which is only 8mp. Plus alot of the time its in large F jpeg......so for sports the 2mp isnt going to make a great deal of difference in my opinion.

Personally i would prefer to see a proper 35mm sensor rather than the 1.3x sensor. Either way the price would have put it out of its targetted audience.
digitalkiwi

Thats what i meant the 12 MP is full frame i was hoping that they would use the same sensor that was in the 5D.
jonH

But would you have expected them to keep the 10fps?

upping 8mp/8fps to 10mp/10fps is quite a big deal
digitalkiwi

Well they did stick in two Digic three buffers so i guess it was a bit too much to ask.
sean

"10 fps continuous shooting for up to 110 frames"

That is seriously pushing the boundaries for sports photography. No point in getting one if your main area isn't sports/fast moving subjects.

It's a definite beast but what I want to know is whats the new 1Ds Mk going to be like?

Heard rumours of 22 mega pixel Rolling Eyes

Where will it stop?
sean

It won't stop. 2001 saw the launch of the EOS-1D with a resolution of 4.4mp. Today's top-end Canon is 16mp. Within 3 years time they'll break the 20mp limit, and then 25mp, 30mp and so on. As sensors get denser, chips get smaller and technology gets more advanced, more boundaries will get broken.
I guess the next real step is a change in technology. Something completely new. Maybe it will something completely mind-blowing like an organic sensor based on a human eye!

Cant wait for the new Ds Mk 3 to come out as it will mean the 1Ds mark 2 will drop in price Laughing

yeah right.

still got to wonder whether they'll start moving towards more bit depth and dynamic range once they get to a certain level.

it's all well and good resolving infinite detail, but the optics are not going to be able to keep up and I think there'll come a point when people will see no point upgrading to something that even four-figure priced lenses can't cope with.

in contrast, iso100 performance at iso3200 is something I'd pay to see, but I have to say I'm slightly saddened by the continual evolution of the technology - it's certainly making the job of taking photos easier and whilst this improves the efficiency of PJs it does take a lot of the fun out of the creative process for the rest of us. I wonder whether film will make a cult resurgence just like vinyl did..

The one factor which i think governs the speed is the lenses, its ok in a cropped sensor you dont notice it but once you switch to full frame you have to use a very good qulaity lens due to vignetting. Until they change the design of the lens and bring out a whole new series of lenses i dont think it will not creap much higher than the 20mp if that.

The quality of a Ds mk 2 at 16.7mp is supposed to be the same quality as a 6x4 slide, (not been fortunate to get my hands on one to test it with my medium format) so quality wise can it get much better? you can get big enough images now whats the point of getting a 25mp camera if you get publishing quality with a 8 mp camera. Getty images which is the agency to get your photos on they wont accept anything but images taken on the following Nikon D200, Nikon D2X, Canon EOS 30D, Canon EOS 5D, Canon EOS 1D MK 11, Canon EOS 1Ds, Canon EOS 1Ds MK 11.

Also storage space would be a huge consideration, using a 20D and 5D im on to my second 280GB harddrive, i shoot in raw and with an uncompressed 5D image looking at 45-50 meg an image and 7 meg a raw image imageing what a 25mp would be, thats scary. lol Shocked
