am now on works laptop with no access to my images/image editing programs as my PC refuses to fire up.
Not worried about the images as they are backed up and are also on my spare drive on the PC.
For some reason or other, pc says no hard disk detected, then goes on to say no array defined - although not using RAID, it seems to want an array now!!!!??? Cannot get round it, as trying to reinstall XP says it cannot find the disc. Has to be a way round this, doesn't there?
So, have my neices husband calling round this afternoon - he works in IT dept in large company, so maybe he can shine some light on the problem. If not, going to have to go down route of new pc and the problems associated with VISTA as that seems to be only OS on sale. MIght just reformat and load XP pro if it comes down to it.

Sounds like the HD may have gone down Dave, bummer, but glad you're backed up.
Be warned if you get a Vista machine and try to put XP on it you may not be able to get drivers. They are still selling business machines with XP as the business world doesn't trust Vista yet.

when you fire the pc up, check to see if you can hear the hard drive(s) spinning up - could just be either power cable or data cable that's come a little loose
i would have said that it could have been the master boot record, as xp is quite good at breaking that (google 'fixmbr') but it does sound like the system can't see the physical device in the first place, rather than just failing to find an operating system

Thanks
had a good play with the damn thing yesterday, new boards fitted and still no luck, changed cables - nothing
so new PC this weekend, I think, but got a wedding to go to first - daughters, at 17:30 this evening.
And before you ask - no the camera is staying at home.

I hope it all goes well Dave, and I hope we see some pictures, even if not from your camera.

all is going well, even getting new XP desktop - free. My neices partner who tried to fix mine, told his boss the problems, he is posting one of their ex demos (never been out of the box) loading xp on it, and will be with me on MOnday.
