It's usually a cookies problem, especially if you checked the "remember me" box at one point.
The usual fix is to clear your browser cookies and cache. Now this will clear all cookies, so you will need to re-login to all sites you have set up to remember things.
How you clear your cookies and cache depends on what browser you're using. As a starting point, see How do I clear the browser cache and cookies on my computer?

John, I love you, in a manly way of course. I just deleted the forum cookies. I didn't know that cookies could cause that kind if hassle. You are the hero of the hour!

now this is weird
I now go to log in - it goes back to log in page, log in again and then I see no new posts, even though when I look at times and dates there have been!!
I was logged in, went to post reply to this, and had to log in again!!!
