Rudbeckia goldsturm'Black-eyed Susan'
From my gardens, last July. Shot on an overcast day which enhanced the saturation.

hi, not too sure about this one, but can't put my finger on why - too much yellow maybe?

Thanks for the input.
No alteration was done to the colours. I'm thinking that it needs more contrast, and perhaps a deeper dof. Or maybe it's a shot that was never meant to be. Maybe next summer I can try this one again

When I first clocked this image, it was one of those about which I didn't know what to say. Like you, Dave, I couldn't and can't quite put my finger on it.
I don't think it's depth of field, John, perhaps it's just the lack of contrast in the image around the seed head. It's a lovely picture, but missing that certain something.

Thanks Keith. I agree that contrast seems to be at the heart of the problem. It's as if the yellows are 'blown out' like highlights might be.
I've played with this in raw mode and there isn't much to be done with it. I think a deeper dof would have made the petals of the flower in the foreground crisper and that would have provided better definition.
Perhaps lighting needs something also - it was an overcast day which normally is good for photographing things like this, but I think the colours are over-saturated and the lack of shadows reduces definition.
A lot of assumptions here That's why I need to try this again. Of course, I may never know since the conditions will never be quite the same again.
Everyone's input is much appreciated! Thank you.
