Self-Portraits

Self-Portraits
On a basic level, shooting self-portraits gives you experience in the technical side of portrait photography without needing a model.
Shooting pictures of yourself can be a good way of experimenting with lighting, camera angles, and learning useful technical skills. Self-portraiture is perhaps the best form of self-expression there is. Artists have been doing it for centuries. As both the model and
photographer, you control every aspect of the image.
The most simple approach, and one of the most popular, is to use a mirror. After all including your camera in the picture says something about one of your greatest interests – photography.
Alternatively, set up the scene using a stand-in, then nip around the other side of the camera to take the picture. Most cameras have a self-timer- this is an effective way to fire the shutter. If you want more control over when the picture is taken, use a remote release.
Many digital compact cameras have flip-out screens that let you see what’s happening from in front of the lens, which is a great facility to have when shooting self-portraits as it makes accurate framing so much easier.
