Sigma macro - autofucus not working

Bought in May 2006, just got it out to try some moth/butterfly shots and no AF. BxMMER.

Warehouseexpress - no one there at weekends - another BXMMER

Anyone any thoughts about how it might be fixed? - never know someone might just know.

Need the AF as me and manual focus don't get on

Don't want to try the 2lb hammer just yet.

Have you tried the obvious ones Dave like flick the manual / AF switch on off a couple of times.
Checked the contacts, clean and undamaged.
Are your other lenses work OK (just to make sure it's not the camera.

When I sent the lens back to Sigma, I also mentioned the AF problem to them. They were very nice to send the lens back upgraded and fixed with a diagnostic report. It turned out that the AF belt has weakened and they had replaced it. Now the AF works just fine on this lens. With 20/20 hindsight, it is apparent the AF belt is the real problem and the lubrication just eased the labour on the weakened belt.


This guy had a similar problem to you, he actually striped his down and lubricated it until he had it serviced, See Here if your feeling brave and fancy having ago yourself.

Don't know if this is any use.

thanks MIke - the obvious was all done, about 5 times, then again as I did not want to believe it. All other lenses work OK.

Not too sure about stripping it down just yet, will wait and see what Ware house express come up.

Really annoying thing is, I haven't really used that much, could be sold as new (if AF worked).
