well its difficult, and you need to make sure you have everything ready before hand!
Trust me, bandering about whilst the sun is already rising over the horizon isnt that much fun.
Dont leave the camera pointed at the sun, as you'll damage the sensor and your eyes.
In terms of F and shutter, remember to bracket -+2 stops for the shot. But the ones ive shot this morning were taken at;
ISO50
1/125
F7.1
Using a Hoya Digital Pro-1 filter as well...and the images seem to have caught the morning light well.
May even post them up a bit later!
Hope you got some results as well

When I took my sunrise shots in august, I was at F8 or F11 on aperture priority, ISO 200 (lowest the D70 goes) bracketing at 2ev (ie 3 shots, one @ 0ev, one over-exposed at +2ev and one under-exposed at -2ev) If you have ND grad filters you can reach a similar-ish effect by using them rather than combining them into HDR/tone-mapped images like these:
Either way, the best results for sunrise or sunset shots (unless you specifically want strong silhouettes) is to balance the sky and ground out by using either hdr or nd grads
