TrainsWent along with my camera to local train station. asked permission before going onto platform and no probs there.
This used to be my late father's office when he worked on the railway as foreman ganger. i remember visiting it often. mind you it didnt have that ugly phone box or portacabin washroom next door then!
Wellingborough railway station - a rather nice building

Ahhh, trains, love em and very nice shots too. I agree about the phone and portacabin, but nicely presented. Wellingborough, lovely building.

I love trains too - an ex boyfriend of many years ago used to work for BR and I spent many an afternoon watching the trains go by!

I forgot to say that your photos are great - nice saturated colours and cloud details - the sepia one has a hint of days gone by (though I guess it would have been busier then)

The trains on my local line do not look that clean.

thanks for the positive comments. i was trying for something a bit different - like movememt in the train. but when i look at the blurred ones, they look just that-blurred- so i didn't post them.
for example, everythings blurred on this one. should i be focussing on the building or the train when i take the photo? and what settings should i use.
and i was hoping this one would turn out better but it was ruined by the rain and my inability to hold the camera steady with the lens extended, even with a monopod. i didnt want to be setting up a tripod on the station platform.

If you want the train blurred as it comes through, focus on a building and have the camera in aperture priority mode, under the conditions here I'd suggest trying f9 which should give you a slowish shutter speed, pin sharp building, streaking train. If the result is not blurred enough reduce the aperture a stop or two, that's f10 or f11 and so on. Of course, if it's stupidly blurred go the other way.Trouble is, it's a waiting game to try the next one. I don't know how well you'll get on with the monopod though.

Cheers derek. it's persisting here too, which was why I didn't go out the front door, but I am very glad it helped. There is usually a way to practice shots other than in the situation where you don't want to mess up. If you want to practice photographing aircraft, chase seagulls, for example.
I am meant to be going to Ashton Court in Bristol tomorrow for a Balloon Fiesta and the Red Arrows are meant to be appearing at 4.30. Normally I would go out and get some practice, but because of the rain and that I have managed to pick up a summer cold and feel like hell, I can't. Not even sure I am going to make it as I really don't want to be outside getting wet and cold feeling like this.

Thanks for the well wishes. I think my desktop forecast has lost the plot, assuming it really is Saturday today.

Great shots - looks like a fun thing to do.
Raining here today too - hope the weather improves for Ashton Court. Would love to come down for that, but we're heading north again after a week in Manchester.

Try? Try! You are one of the most joyously prolific photographers I have come across. Just to mention, I have been trying to comment on some of your flickr shots and because I invariably seem choose shots that have any number of comments already, my browser just hangs and that's it for that session. I've thought of leaving a testimonial as a way round the problem, but just so you know, you have an infectious exuberance in your photography that I enjoy immensely.
