Do you have the book Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3?
In lesson 3 he works his magic on an image that has many similarities to your's. I bet you could use those techniques to really pimp this up!

John - got it last week and haven't got to lesson 3 yet - but will look at it as soon as I get chance - only been through 1 and 2 so far
