Hi,

What do you think the best method in photoshop is to convert a colour shot in to really punchy black and white.

Hi issi,

Are you looking for a different from the normal way of: Image-Adjustment then either Black and white or Desaturate? you can then alter the contrast to help give it that little bit more Punch.

Mike

Hi Issa, I tend to do all my sprucing up before I convert, often as a last thing boosting the picture with the curves palette. But for more options on B&W conversions a copy of PSPX offers several filters, and it's as cheap as chips now.

Using, from top left, yellow, blue, green and red filters in PSP, and if it still isn't quite how you want it, you can do two conversions and blend them.

Channel mixer is the way to go

Image/adjustment/Channel mixer

Make sure monochrome box is ticked, the adjust the sliders so that you get the result you are looking for.

Just make sure that the sum of the percentages adds up to 100 for best results.

I use channel mixer, what I have also started doing is when I find a combination of sliders that I really like I save it so that I can use it again if need be, makes live so much easier.
