done, and it does seem a wee bit faster.

So why is it not defaulted to these settings?

Apparently, browsers are optimised for dial up by default, these settings enable better use of faster connections. One of our more informed tech heads might be able to clarify this if I've got it wrong, but my internet speed is much improved.

Just by the by, have since discovered that the optimum setting for maxrequests should be 8.

Back in the day when internet connections were not as fast as they are now, you were limited to the amount of data you could pass down a dial-up line. Too much data would cause your connection to bottleneck and/or fall over.

Now we have super-fast connections, increasing the number of requests will - but not always - speed up your browsing experience. You have to remember that the webserver you are connecting too may be on a slower connection than you are and take into account geographical location.

8 requests sounds about right for an optimum number.

Thanks peteski, I came across this via a neighbour because my broadband connection has been giving me grief. I decided to do a bit of searching on the web because there's a lot of nonsense that gets passed about and checking it out is always good. This is where I got the info about what the maxrequests should be. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Just given it a shot... seems a bit faster. Cheers.

Glad it worked Shirley.

I've altered the pic to show the correct number for anyone coming across this in future.
