Had a few successes on saturday with the pocketwizards & mini tripod/manfrotto arm, thought they were worth sharing Apologies for the water marks, they're all pointing to my main site
Basically I had my D2Xs set in high speed crop mode (so I could get 8fps out of it) with my Tokina 12-24mm attached. One Pocketwizard was mounted in the hotshoe of the D2Xs, which controlled the camera and the other Pocketwizard was mounted in the hotshoe of my D300. Every time the D300 fired, the Pocketwizard would transmit a signal to the other unit on the D2Xs and cause it to take a shot. It's not a perfect setup because the D300's buffer isn't massive when you're shooting at 8fps but you still have to start shooting earlier to get the wing shots. I did miss a few shots as the buffer filled, but then shots like this make up for it
I'm tempted to try a udma card instead of my Extreme III to see if that helps but I've spent enough recently as the manfrotto arm and clamp are new purchases _________________ There is nothing in life that cannot be improved with either monkeys, pirates or ninjas NPU Member
Nice shots Jon. Thanks for the info concerning how you set up your PW's - I have just bought a set of Ebay copies, and am looking forward to getting out with my Speedlight, and another 'borrowed' speedlight, to see what I can come up remotely....
I shall be using the PW on my master Speedlight, with the second flash being a slave to the master (in theory). Will see what it brings...... _________________ Bring on the snow, for I feel the need to ride.....
these images just get better and better, and the info on the pw's is appreciated. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------
glad u like 'em there was loads of light on saturday but the sun is still low enough in the sky that the light isn't too harsh.
I should probably add there is a trigger cable that goes from the PW on the remote camera to that camera's 10-pin remote terminal - it's blummin expensive, but the cheapo versions of the cable break in no time
